Baby blue is one of those wonderful colours that need to be used in moderation. A little piece here, a little accessory there, and it's enough. Painting the walls with it hardly ever results in a cozy environment. It needs to be enveloped in warm whites, sweet pinks or bright yellows. It needs the softness of wood or the warmth of wicker. Only then the true fresh, breezy, summery qualities of this colour arise. That's how I like it.

Bebe mavisi kararında kullanıldığında muhteşem duran renklerden. Bir parça mobilya veya birkaç aksesuarda kullanmak yetiyor. Duvarları bu renge boyamak nadiren sıcak bir ortam ile sonuçlanıyor. Krema gibi beyazlarla, şeker pembelerle veya canlı sarılarla sarmalanmalı. Yanına ahşabın veya hasırın sıcaklığını istiyor. Ancak o zaman o yaz esintisi kokulu hali ortaya çıkıyor. I have always been into Thonet chairs, enamel and vintage looking floor tiles. I also find simple woven fabric rugs such as the one here perfect for summer homes.

Yes to blue kitchen appliances. What I don't understand is why the majority of kitchen equipment isn't made in pastel colors. Every single person I know goes gaga over them. Why are our options limited to hard to access brands such as Kitchenaid, Smeg and AGA? Why?

Mavi mutfak aletlerine evet. Anlamadığım şey neden hali hazırdaki mutfak eşyalarının çoğunun pastel renklerde olmadığı. Tanıdığım herkes (en azından kadınlar) kenarda köşede ele geçirebildikleri pastel renkli eşyalara bayılıyor, hele mutfakta. Niçin seçeneklerimiz Kitchenaid, Smeg ve AGA gibi ulaşması zor markalar ile sınırlı?

The polka dot sheets with scalloped edges are so pretty. But it's really the blue cushions and pink stools that make the room! I want a star cushion, I guess it would be fairly easy to DIY.

Kenarları dilimli, puantiyeli çarşaflar çok şirin. Ama bu odaya havasını veren asıl o mavi yastıklar ve pembe tabureler. Ben de yıldız şeklinde bir yastık istedim bunu görünce; evde dikmesi çok da zor olmasa gerek.

Some Place New, Some Things Old

This is the home of Stewart and Jane Devlin in Millbrook, Hudson Valley. They're Irish and English, respectively. This renovated 18th century house is so close to New York while providing the countryside lifestyle of their old country.

This is quite possibly the most realistic doll house I have ever seen. I wonder if it can be opened?

The family who lives here has great taste in old school toys. Case in point, everything in the child's room above and the rocking swan toy a couple of photos up.

I normally skip December issues of magazines because they all kind of look alike. However, taking just a peek at Country Living UK's preview had me convinced I needed to see these cozy photos closer. Turns out it's quite the fulfilling issue, every page was a delight! It's one of those rare magazines that the reading material is consistently as substantial as the pictures.

Do you still buy print magazines or do you prefer digital versions? I'm a hardcore digital fan and find reading mags on an iPad surprisingly pleasant. I don't like buying directly from the App Store newsstand though, I use Zinio, that way I can read my magazines from a computer too, useful if you don't own a tablet. It's also much easier to navigate and you can see all your magazines in one place. I'm subscribed to Living Etc UK but it's getting kitscher and kitscher every month and has become quite cringeworthy, so I won't be renewing it this year. Instead, now that my all time favorite mag Elle Decor UK is on Zinio, I'll stick to that, with the occasional Country Living UK and Wallpaper thrown in. Yep, I like my magazines British!

Normalde dergilerin Aralık sayılarını atlarım çünkü hepsi aşağı yukarı birbirine benzer. Fakat Country Living UK'in son sayısına bir göz atınca almadan duramadım. Dergi sıcacık, insanı yılbaşı moduna sokan fotoğraflarla dolu; insanda sahlep içmekle aynı etkiyi yapıyor. Bu dergideki yazıların da istikrarlı olarak fotoğraflar kadar doyurucu olmasını seviyorum.

Siz dergilerin basılı versiyonlarını mı tercih ediyorsunuz, yoksa dijital versiyonlarını mı? Ben bir dijital hayranıyım, üstelik tabletten dergi okumak şaşırtıcı derecede zevkli, insan kağıdı hiç aramıyor. Yabancı dergilerin fiyatları üzerinde yazan ücretin TL'ye çevrilmiş hali, yani olması gerektiği gibi. Basılı versiyonlarının fiyatları iyice uçtu son birkaç aydır, mağazalarda dikilerek okumaya çalışmaktan bıktım. Fakat App Store'daki "newsstand" yerine Zinio aplikasyonunu kullanmayı tercih ediyorum, hem farklı dergilerinizi bir arada görmek daha kolay, hem de aldığım dergileri dilersem bilgisayardan da okuyabiliyorum, tablet kullanmayanlar da faydalanabilir. Zinio'dan Living Etc'nın İngiliz versiyonuna aboneydim ama dergi rüküşlükte sınırları zorlamaya başladı, artık çekilmiyor. Ona aboneliğimi yenilemeyeceğim, yerine favori dergim Elle Decor UK'e geçeceğim, artık onun da dijital versiyonu var. Nezih'te, D&R'da basılısı 30 küsür lira, dijitali 11 lira! Bu yıl çoğunlukla onu alır, arada canım çektikçe de Country Living UK veya Wallpaper ile çeşnilendiririm diye düşünüyorum. Yerli dergiler kimse kusura bakmasın ama, bence çöp. Dekorasyon-tasarımda da, moda dergilerinde de en kaliteli bulduklarım İngiliz dergileri.

Subtle Christmas

I think the Christmas Spirit has paid a visit to this summer house in Rageleje, Denmark, and warmed it up for the fierce winter with subtle, tasteful decorations. See, if you're living in a house as white as snow with a wood burning stove and gorgeous red chairs, your tree doesn't even need decorations; just leave it bare.

Rageleje, Danimarka'daki bu yazlık evi belli ki Noel ruhu ziyaret etmiş, abartısız, zevk sahibi dokunuşlarla süsleyerek kara kışa hazırlamış. Kar beyazı bir evde, döküm soba ve güzeller güzeli kırmızı sandalyelerle yaşıyorsanız, yılbaşı ağacınızın süslenmeye ihtiyacı olmuyormuş sevgili okuyucu, çıplak bırakın gitsin.

A few evergreen branches here, a couple of pine cones there, and just the right amount of string lights and candles are all you need. I like the idea of having a very small, simple tree and complementing it by putting branches in vases and baskets in the other corners of the room.

Woodland animals dipped in white are beautiful all year round. You can buy plastic animals to easily paint them and use them on table decorations, shelves, or mantles. I've been intending to do that for a while now, still haven't gotten around to it.

Beyaz orman hayvanları heykelcikleri yılın her dönemi güzel. Plastik hayvan oyuncaklarından alarak kolayca beyaza boyayabilir, raflarda, sofralarda, şöminenizin üzerinde kullanabilirsiniz. Bunu yapmaya bir süredir niyetliyim ama başıma biblo mu çıkaracağım diye henüz kalkışamadım.

What a beautiful bedroom, and what a gorgeous mirror! I love how the exterior of the bedroom door is painted red. They have put up botanical prints all around the house, there is one in almost each photo.

Ne kadar sevimli bir yatak odası, ne kadar hoş bir ayna! Yatak odası kapısının dışı kırmızıya boyanmış. Evin her odasına botanik posterleri asmışlar, neredeyse tüm fotoğraflarda görülüyor.

Isn't the nursery just wonderful too? The rug, the wooden toys, the blue dresser... I don't think any kid would object to sleeping there, at least not those who were born to be stylish!

Çocuk odası da çok şeker değil mi? Kilim, tahta oyuncaklar, mavi şifonyer... Burada uyumaya hiçbir çocuğun itirazı olmazdı sanırım; en azından anasının karnından zevk sahibi doğanların!

The other children's room that I love, despite not being/having a child, is the one you can see above from this loft. I know this photo isn't new, I'm posting it for the sake of archiving.

Çocuk/çocuklu olmamama karşın bayıldığım diğer çocuk odası da bu yukarda gördüğünüz işte. Aslında bu fotoğraf yeni sayılmaz ama arşivlemek adına yayımlıyorum.

I think this is the room of the second lucky child that lives in that loft. Is that a bakelite radio?

Of course I couldn't help but share this pink Smeg that has the power to make a harsh stainless steel kitchen look like raspberry cake. The rest of the loft is nice too, just not my cup of tea. You can check it out here.

The home of Emma Sahlin and Nils Unckel in Stockholm from the July issue of Sköna Hem. Apparently there are more photos in the actual magazine; I can't wait til they are all published online.

Sköna Hem'in Temmuz sayısından Emma Sahlin ve Nils Unckel'e ait apartman dairesi. Derginin aslında daha çok resim varmış, internette de yayımlanmalarını iple çekiyorum.

This is one of the most beautiful children's rooms I have ever come across. Every detail is perfect. The cradle seen above, believe it or not, was bought from Ikea in 1972, and the family used it for all the children they had in several generations! I read somewhere that the Ikea PS Sinka cabinet (seen left) is to be discontinued. I took the news with sorrow as I've always wanted one but the relatively high price stopped me from buying it as I didn't really need it. I might regret this decision in a few years.

Bugüne dek en çok beğendiğim çocuk odalarından biri. Her detayı mükemmel. Fotoğrafta görülen beşik 1972 ylında Ikea'dan alınmış, ve birkaç jenerasyondur ailede doğan her çocukta kullanmışlar! Ayrıca yine üstte, solda görülen Ikea PS Sinka çekmeceli dolap yakında piyasadan kalkacakmış. Bu haberi elemle karşıladım çünkü çok beğendiğim, istediğim, ama pek de ihtiyacım olmadığı için nispeten yüksek olan fiyatını ödemeyi göze alamadığım bir parçaydı. Umarım birkaç seneye bu kararımdan kafamı taşlara vurmam.

Hotel-inspired bedroom looks cozy. It says in the article that the curtains are hiding a wall and giving the illusion of larger windows. The carpeted floors, which I doubt I will ever attempt, looks beautiful here.

Yatak odasını döşerken otel gibi olsun istemişler. Konforlu ve davetkar olmuş. Perdeler duvarı gizleyerek pencerelerin daha büyük olduğu ilüzyonunu yaratıyormuş. Halı kaplı yerler -ben asla böyle birşeye kalkışmayacak olsam dahi- hoş görünüyor.

Tiny McSmall & Makie Clothier

Tiny McSmall, kendisi anne olduktan sonra markayı oluşturan bir girişimci tarafından kurulmuş. Amerika ve Avrupalı (ve çocuklu) tasarımcıların ve el işi severlerin tasarımlarını elde üreterek satıyorlar. Bunlar o kadar şirin ki, eliniz biraz şiş tutuyorsa bunları görünce çocuklarınıza (hatta kendinize) birer tane örmeyi deneyeceğinizden eminim.

Tiny McSmall was started by a mother herself. Now the company works with designers and crafters from USA and Europe who are also parents. Every item is hand-crafted with love!
