Today is the second part of the ceramics for display cabinets and shelves post I did. This time I chose the kind of objects that when you see, you instantly adore, and will be a joy to look at everyday. You can combine these ones with the classical and basic ones and create focus. Another way to find special and original display things with a vintage-y feel is probably your local thrift stores, second hands shops, or Etsy. Here are some objects that I LOVE; they aren't vintage, but they are designed so beautifully that I'm sure they will be more valuable over time.

Country Style Ceramics for Display - Part 1

Sergilemek İçin Kır Evi Stili Seramikler - Bölüm 1
bosluk
bosluk
Display shelves and cabinets are a very easy and pretty way to give your home a country vibe. But where to find the display-worthy items to put on those shelves? Not those silvers and crystals our grandmothers have (and we are sick of seeing). Not that those are bad, but like I said, we are going for the country style. So earthenwares, ceramics, porcelains are the best choices of material. As for forms, I can't get enough of elegant jugs, especially lots of them combined in different sizes and in a color scheme of whites & creams.
bosluk

A slightly darker, or even colorful background color is great for making your beautiful porcelains really pop. Pastel colors, or a vibrant yellow would make a perfect background. Here we can see how each item is different.

Serving In Style

If anyone served me with these trays I would totally pass the food and fondle the tray, because they are sooo adorable! I can't even choose a favorite, I just loved them all. They would make a great housewarming gift (*hint hint*). The first 5 of them are all by Marimekko, Finnish brand famous for their fabrics. These trays were made by pressing those gorgeous fabrics on plywood, and are available here for a price range between $25-49.

Tip for Bloggers: How to Build a Light Tent

I guess there isn't much people in our little blogosphere who have not read the highly helpful "Tips for New Bloggers" post series by Felicity from the lovely All Things Bright and Beautiful. She has already done so much, put her heart to it and has totally covered the subject, I learned a lot from those posts as many other new bloggers did too. She tagged me and some other bloggers to contribute to the subject and post a tip. My knowledge is pretty basic so instead of a blogging tip I decided to post a tip about photography and give you some useful links on "How to Build a Light Tent". This tip will be useful for anyone out there who likes to take photographs of objects, the pictures will turn out much more clear and luminous.
bosluk

Image from Flickr, idiotking's photostream.

This photo of a radio was taken in a DIY light tent. It looks pretty professional to me! This photo has a white background, but you can have backgrounds in other colors by using colored hard paper as your backdrop, as seen below.

bosluk

Now, here are the links:

Super Simple Light Tent at Instructables - The Picture above is from this tutorial, this one is very easy to make, using a cardboard box.

PVC Light Box by Bill Huber - Also good tutorial, this one is made by using PVC tubes. It may be a bit more functional as the cardboard frame may cause unwanted shadows.

Tutorial with sound- This one explains the PVC Light Box above, but click on the " the tippin' " button on the menu, there are some good adjustment tips.

I found about these light tent tutorials via Core 77's "Hack 2 School" Guide, which is a very fun and useful guide for design students. I laughed several times while reading it as it reminded me of my college years a lot!

If you can't bother with making one of your own, you can always buy one here, there are many options in a wide price range.

I hope this tip will be useful for you, enjoy!

Istanbul From The Eyes of Juergen Frank

Juergen Frank'in Gözlerinden İstanbul

bosluk
My dear dear readers, I have neglected my blog terribly for the past week or so, but that is only because I'm buried up to my throat with projects that have very close deadlines: A school project, and also some other work for a design competition. I will definitely post my competition entry if my partner is OK with it. Anyways, my heart is still here at my blog, and I'm very happy that I came by a great photographer whose work I think might be interesting for my readers outside of Turkey. You know I live in Istanbul, and like any metropol this city is a combination of beautiful and ugly. Juergen Frank is a great photographer who managed to capture the beautiful, historical side of this city. Most of these picture here were taken for Cornucopia, an international magazine on Turkey and Turkish culture. Do take a look at their site, because there are more beautiful pictures where these came from.

I'm not sure where this is, Juergen Frank's site only says "Aslı Tunca, Istanbul". Aslı Tunca is a tasteful Turkish interior designer, so I'm guessing this photo must be taken at her showroom.

The grand bazaar. I really didn't know it was this big. It is a shame to admit that I haven't been to the grand bazaar many times, and those times I went there I felt like I was in a foreign country. It is amazing, crazy, scary, majestic, magnificent... The mosque you can see in the distance is the Blue Mosque.

Tünel'den bir görünüş.

This is the "Tunnel Square" at Beyoglu. This paragraph from Cornucopia explains very well what Beyoglu is about, so I will just quote it without touching it:

"Beyoglu is Istanbul’s Latin Quarter. Built by European bankers, diplomats and merchants in the nineteenth century, it has now been recolonised by a new tribe dedicated to urban pleasures. Its imposing embassies and crumbling palazzos make it the ideal setting for the arts, and for a club-and-café scene that never sleeps. Beyoglu’s labyrinthine streets spill down the hill to Cukurcuma, where bargain hunters stalk antiques. At one end of Beyoglu is the medieval Galata Tower; at the other is Taksim Square and the monument to the new Republic which marks the start of modern Istanbul. Beyond is Nisantasi, the super-smart district for fashion, design and expense-account lunches."

Tagged!

Artwork By Jeremiah Ketner
bosluk
bosluk
I've been tagged by All Things Bright and Beautiful! Making lists and talking about myself; what more can a girl want :)
bosluk
1- I'm a classic case of ADD, the most annoying symptom being the extremely short attention span.
bosluk
2- I'm a movie freak, I have a movie projector in my living room and watch a movie every night. I always have a long list of movies to get and watch.
bosluk
3- I'm also an animal freak, and had a very wide selection of pets to this day(rabbits, turtles, different kinds of birds, fish etc.) including many chicks that were taken care of so well that they all turned into very loyal roosters that would follow me everywhere (I even got one to sign my diary). Now I finally have a dog, which is the ultimate pet, really. I also have no problem petting snakes or mice.
bosluk
4- I loovvveee fantasy literature and can read a series in a heartbeat. When I'm done reading a 5 book series I feel sad that it is over. I also love fairy tales, elves, gnomes, witches, princesses, dragons - anything that is from a magical realm.
bosluk
5- My boyfriend can perform therapy with bioenergy. Which is actually about him, but him being cool makes me cool too!
bosluk
6- I think I'm very indecisive (but my mom suggests that's only because I'm very clear in my head about what I want). Well, it takes time to pick between two exact same pairs of earrings that both have small flaws (I have to decide which one is less flawed), perfectionist or just indecisive, it really annoys the person I'm shopping with.
bosluk
7- There's no way you can tell by the way I look but I was such a nerd in college! Sitting always in the front row and taking notes like crazy. I used to distribute my notes to the whole class before the exams.
bosluk
As part of the game I'm tagging 3 bloggers (I know I'm supposed to tag more but everybody seem to be already tagged/ or I'm too shy to ask) :
bosluk
M.A. Belle - Beautiful beautiful blog I have recently discovered.
bosluk
That's Chic - One of my favorite fashion blogs ever, I check this one daily!
bosluk
Made by Girl - The gorgeous girl behind the witty, fabulous cards.
