So you see, Alexander Wang is appealing to me on so many levels! I have been stalking The Selby hourly since he put up the "Coming up soon: Alexander Wang" sign, he finally posted it!

As for the place. First of all, I really like the space. The high ceilings, tall windows, plaster walls along with the dark floors are strikingly beautiful. The pillars are stunning. These features contrast very well with cleverly implemented industrial style light fixtures, and create the airy and unfinished feeling of a photography studio. Please note that he only broke the monochromatic color scheme with gold or brass elements. The gold/brass help create depth by becoming focal points, and add a little luxury, still within the general "contrast" look of the place.

Wang himself sitting on a gorgeous marble table. The luxurious marble is on the same "team" as the gold furniture, just like the industrial light fixtures are on the same team as the exposed pipes. This means that if you were to go for a similar look at your place, you could keep adding needed elements to each team, without creating clutter and compromising the airy feeling of course.

My taste in fashion and decor is very different. In decor I like romantic, feminine, soft styles, but in fashion I like simple things made with luxurious fabrics, things that have a dark edge, and a whole different color scheme than I would prefer in my home. Alexander Wang's office may not be the place I love the most, but it definitely holds elements that appeal to the both ends of my taste.

I just love the shape, elegance, coziness, and color, and even the feet of this sofa. Ok, that means I love everything about it. Future sofa, decided! It is handmade to order here, and covered with natural dyed linen. I can picture it in an eclectic luxurious place(think Thonet chairs, Saarinen tulip table, good colorful artwork on the walls, a rich, gorgeous grandfather clock, color on white embroidered cushions), a femininely decorated house(all white and patina wood, enamel jugs, fancy tea cups, galvanize buckets filled with fresh flowers), a hunter's cottage(a plaid blanket, chunky butchers' style coffee table, nice crackling fire, big furry dog), a country beach house(sea shells, pebbles, driftwood, icy blues and light grays, wicker baskets); that's how versatile it is. It is stunning...

Ponoko is a website where you log on and design something and have it made using sheet materials and laser-cutting technique. There are different materials to choose from, and you can design jewelery, home accessories, puzzles, toys etc., but you can also design larger scaled 3-D furniture such as bookcases by using interlocking pieces. You make a design, order it, and they laser-cut the pieces and send them to you. If you notice any flaws of the result product you can always tweak your design a little bit and perfect it. After this, you can either submit your product to be sold, which means other people will see it on the site and order it, then Ponoko sends you the pieces, you send it to the customer. OR, you can just submit a "design plan" which the customers can buy your and have the laser-cut pieces delivered to themselves. Or, if you aren't into designing yourself, you can choose and buy from the many original designs sold on the site. Here is a great article about Ponoko, pros, cons, everything.

The other website, Bon Bon Kakku, is a pioneering net store where you can design your own fabrics. You make a design, they put it on the site for publice view, the viewers vote the designs. If your design is a success, it will be sold on the site. This means that you not only get to design the fabric of your dreams, but also your designs have a chance to be recognized and bought by many people. There are competitions held on the site continuously. Here are some examples that made it to the store:

Hello my dears! I just wanted to fill you in that it's a very hectic week for me, sorry for the lack of posts! I will try to squeeze in some eye candy for you tomorrow :)

By the way, hopefully I will be making my first ever business trip to London this month! It is kind of stressing me out as seeing London has been something I have been dreaming about forever, and I will have so little free time (4 evenings and a full Saturday), I feel like hungry beast with only one bite to eat (well I am drooling). I would appreciate if you guys have any suggestions, you know what I like; gorgeous, old buildings, romantic home decor, edgy fashion, cheap corner shops. I just love getting into the mood of a new city, that's why if it were up to me I would plan all my trips to last at least 3 weeks...

Update: Ooops... Looks like I couldn't squeeze in any posts after all. Sorry :(

Bu arada, umuyorumki bu ay hayatımın ilk "iş gezisi"ni Londra'ya yapacağım. Önerileriniz varsa beni çok sevindirirsiniz, bütün şehri göremeyeceğimin bilincindeyim ama neleri sevdiğimi bilirsiniz siz: muhteşem eski binalar, romantik ev dekorasyonu, uçlarda seyreden moda, ucuz ve tarz sahibi öteberi dükkancıkları. Ne yapalım, fazla birşey göremesem bile o muhteşem şehir dokusunu deneyimlemek yeter. The detail and the contrast that is the point of the artwork is so apparent that you could own only photos of these and get the overall feeling of having the original work. Still, I would love to have the shovels in my home. The context aside, they're just beautiful and very fit for the shabby chic/elegant barn look lovers. His other applications of this technique include car parts and tin cans, he also used the lace printing on dirt, and also used rust to print lace patterns on paper. The rust prints kind of reminded me of Anny Oren's design that turned coffee stains into beautiful patterns.
