Jaime Derringer's story at Huffington Post  about the release of a new wood color -oak- of the Fritz Hansen Series 7 chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1955. I have always been fond of its design, now I'm admiring the production and Fritz Hansen's attention to detail and quality. Machinery and artisanship going hand in hand.

I have been expressing thoughts about Japan on twitter. A disaster of such magnitude is just unimaginable. On top of the earthquake and tsunami, a nuclear disaster is at bay. Twitter'da Japonya'dan bahsediyorum şu günlerde. Zaten başka hiçbir şeye konsantre olamıyorum. Türkiye'de bırak insanları, haber kanallarının bile Japonya'dan pek bahsetmiyor oluşu acaba başka boyuta mı ışınlandım diye merak etmeme yol açıyor. Ne twitter'da, ne facebook'ta herkes hiçbir şey olmamış gibi geyik paylaşımlarına devam ediyor. Dünyanın ekseni 10 cm kaydı. Yer yerinden oynadı! Dünya'da kaydedilmiş en büyük depremlerden birini yaşadılar, üstüne kentleri silip süpüren bir tsunami. Onun da üstüne nükleer felaketin eşiğindeler! Bu bir film olsaydı amma da abartmışlar derdik. Ama değil. İnsanlar özellikle yiyecek ve su sıkıntısı çekiyorlar. Yardım yollayacak bir kuruluş bile bulamadım. Yabancı kuruluşların büyük kısmı yalnız kendi ülkelerinin vatandaşlarından yardım kabul ediyorlar. Sonunda British Red Cross (İngiliz Kızılhaçı) ile kredi kartı ile Türkiye'den de bağış yapılabildiğini keşfettim. 

Herkesin başına gelebilirdi, orada sel basmış kentlerde sandallara doluşmuş biblo gibi çocukları gördükçe fena oluyorum. British Red Cross ile bu link'te yapacağınız bağışı belirleyebilirsiniz.

Not every house-for-sale has the privilege of having it's listing pictures styled by a stylist the calibre of Lotta Agaton. This lucky apartment is Lotta Agaton's own apartment in Stockholm, and it's for sale. Closing the deal on this apartment would be like winning the lottery, you certainly would not have to deal or live with the previous owners' odd choices. If the Wegner wishbones are included I'm definitely moving to Stockholm!

I am in awe of this blog, Likainen Parketti, written by Nena from Finland. She shares incredible photos from her own home, and I'm developing an inferiority complex, stylewise. Nena's blog very very beautiful and it is 1 year old today.

I also want to give my gratitude to all my readers from different countries around the world. When I check my blog stats, the first place I look is that huge map showing where my readers are from. I'm always so happy to see how someone from the other side of the planet and I are communicating somehow, sharing something, and I dream about how daily life must be like in that country. Thank you so much for fitting my blog in your daily routines, I am so grateful. You may not have heard but Blogspot had been banned in Turkey, my own country, do to a copyrights lawsuit of a TV company. It's not entirely censorship, but it is a huge violation of our rights. Thanks to you my blog traffic hasn't dramatically dropped like the blogs that only post in Turkish. I love you guys!

Hey there! I'm still knee deep in renovations, and my poor mother is staying with me helping me, or rather managing the whole ordeal. The whole apartment has been painted except the balconies and radiators, the color turned out horrible and two big rooms had to be repainted, the water-damaged and deeply scratched wooden floors have been fixed, sanded, stained and refinished, baseboards have been changed, and we have been exposed to highly toxic smells during all these processes. I posted photo on Twitter in case you want to see. I got not one, but two black rooms, and am in love with both of them. If this black loving thing is just a phase I'll be very sorry once it passes!

Merhaba! Hala tadilatla boğuşur durumdayım, yardıma gelip tüm işleri çekip çeviren zavallı anneciğimle salonda kamp yapıyoruz. Balkonlar ve radyatörler hariç bütün daire boyandı, hasarlı parkeler onarıldı, sistre yapıldı, rengi değiştirilip tekrar cilalandı, süpürgelikler değişti, ve bütün bu işlemler sırasında toksik kafa yapıcı kokulara maruz kaldık, geceleri garip kabuslar gördük :) Merak ederseniz Twitter'da paylaştığım fotoğrafa bakabilirsiniz. Bir değil, iki duvarı (neredeyse) siyaha boyattım ve sonuç beni çok mutlu etti. Eğer bu siyah aşkı geçici bir hevesse geçtiğinde epey pişmanlık beni bekliyor demektir!

These beautiful photos are for people other than me; people whose homes aren't under renovation, whose stuff aren't stuffed in boxes, covered in plastic and a thick layer of dust. I'm psyched about finally taking the step to make my apartment my own (it used to be my parents'), but it gets worse before it gets better, right? Right?? I considered taking before shots but after I took down the pictures on the walls, the soot stains were just too horrible to be documented. Even with the dust and the plastic, I'm so relieved to have given a lot of the excess stuff away. Clothes, technologically challenged computers, furniture (including my bed, which is why I'm non-sleeping on the couch right now), books (though I still own a life supply of books, most of them previously belonging to me parents and my grandfather) are now happy in their new homes and I'm enjoying the open space and have no intention to fill it back. I'm still shocked about how stuff can be accumulated over the years; this experience has really taught me the importance of spring cleaning! My laptop is jealous of the apartment and wants to start fresh too, making my life miserable in the meantime. Expect updates to be scarce.

Yer yer dökülen ve ailemin eşyaları ile dolu evimi kendime ait hale getirmek için nihayet kolları sıvadığımdan dolayı çok heyecanlıyım. Ailecek seferberlik halinde işe koyulmuş durumdayız. Önce/sonra karşılaştırması yapmak için "önce" fotoğrafları çekeyim dedim ama yatak odamın duvarındaki resimleri sökünce karşılaştığım is dikdörtgenleri (yoksa utanç kareleri mi demeliyim?) beni deklanşöre basmaktan alıkoydu. Badana boya güzel ama beni en çok rahatlatan evdeki fazla eşyayı ayıklamak, vermek, atmak oldu. Eşyalar yeni evlerinde mutlu, ben de kendi boş evimde. Bu satırları da yatağımı dahi vermiş olduğum için uyuyamadığım koltuktan yazıyorum. Pılı pırtı, mobilyalar, kitaplar (gerçi halen ömür boyu yetecek kadar kitabım var ailemden kalan), dergiler, teknolojinin gerisinde kalmış elektronikler, daha neler neler gitti. Oh be! Bahar temizliğinin anlam ve önemine bilahare değineceğim. Bu arada ev hediyesi geleneği kalksın artık, zevkime uymayan bir sürü atsan atılmaz satsan satılmaz objeyi ne yapacağımı şaşırdım. Ev hediyesiyle geleni kapıdan çevirme kararı aldım. Herkes birbirine çikolata götürsün, zira şu uğraşlar sırasında enerji ve mutluluk ihtiyacım için ne kadar çikolata yediğimi bir ben biliyorum bir Allah biliyor. 


Laptop'ım da temiz bir sayfa açmak istiyor sanırım, durumu kritik. Gözleriniz reader'larda kalmasın, post imkanlarım çok kısıtlı.
