OK, so that was another big unannounced hiatus. In my defense, I have lost the will to write about decor. So unless I'm in a chatty mood, from now on there will be less talk, more photos. The fact that most of the home decor blogs I "read" are written in Swedish is proof that text is not that important and we are all here to look at the pretty pictures. Now that we are done with the intro all I have got to say is during the time I was away from this blog I have been drawn to everything that is mustard yellow and I need two small cushions in this shade.

Pekala, yine habersiz uzun bir ara verdim. Güzel fotoğraflar biriktirmeye devam ettim ama yazı yazacak ilhamı bulamadım sanırım. Belki bundan böyle az laf, çok fotoğraf eşittir daha çok post olabilir ha? Kendi takip ettiğim blogların çoğunun İsveççe oluşu dekorasyon bloglarında yazının anlamsızlık ve önemsizliğine delalet olabilir. Girizgahı yaptıktan sonra asıl diyeceğim şu ki son aylarda hardal sarısı olan herşey beni çekiyor. Bu renkte iki adet minik yastık arayışındayım.

THE Tiles

Karo/Fayans Dediğin

A few weeks ago, I was thinking about how I would do my bathroom if I could ever renovate it. That is not going to happen for at least a few years unless I win the lottery, and I don't hate my bathroom at all; it's nothing special but quite comfy. Still, I thought it would be nice to have my mind made up about it, just in case. I know I wouldn't want it to be too fancy or too simple and like my boiling hot showers too much to opt for aything other than tiles. I was only dreaming, mind you, but even in my dream it had to be practical (the inpractical version would have wooden floors, a freestanding tub and a huge window with the view of endless pastures). I decided that I wanted 3D geometric tiles on the floor, and subway tiles on the walls. I even researched and found where I could buy 3D floor tiles.

After finishing this mental project, I was delighted to come across this beautiful bathroom, by Linda Bergroth. It's great to see my vision put to reality in someone else's guinea pig bathroom, looking mighty awesome.

Birkaç hafta önce, aklıma bir düşünce düştü: banyoma tadilat yaptırabilecek olsam nasıl yapardım? Piyango çıkmadığı müddetçe önümüzdeki yıllarda böyle bir imkanım yok, banyomun mevcut durumundan da rahatsız değilim; şu an pek benim tarzım sayılmaz ama gayet konforlu. Yine de bir fikrim olsun istedim, düşündüm taşındım. Ne çok süslü, ne çok sade olsun, uzun vadede kaynar duşlarımdan etkilenmesin diye fayanstan şaşmayayım dedim. Hayalde bile pratiklikten şaşmıyorum gördüğünüz gibi, yoksa ben de bilirim ahşap yerler, ayaklı döküm küvet, sonsuz kırlara bakan kocaman bir pencere hayal etmeyi. Yerlerde üç boyutlu geometrik desenli, duvarlarda bembeyaz dikdörtgen karolarda karar kıldım. 3D illüzyonlu karoları nereden temin edebileceğimi dahi buldum.

Zihinsel projemi tamamladıktan sonra bu güzel banyoya denk geldiğimde pek sevindim, benim kafamdaki fikir başkasının kobay faresinde banyosunda vücut bulmuş, üstelik de harika görünüyor.

Equal Rights for Design

I really appreciate Michelle Ogundehin (follow her twitter, she's such a sweet person) and Elle Decor UK's efforts in protecting the intellectual rights of design. I think British designers are very lucky to have someone like Ogundehin looking out for their rights because they have already seen the fruits of her labour; the government has proposed a change to the copyright laws governing design. As a young designer, I'm often shocked by how some manufacturers think it's OK to visit design fairs and steal the ideas that are ripe for picking, or commission a design and refuse to pay because ideas "aren't tangible things" and they can get them for free anywhere they want. Here is a little reminder of why it is so wrong to purchase fake furniture.

Kısa sürede hükümetten tasarımı kapsayan yasanın değişeceğine dair söz almayı başardılar, darısı başımıza. The Castle

If I lived in this neighborhood and someone tore down one of those old, lovely houses to build that white box in its place, I would be pretty upset. Unless my neighbor invited me in, of course! This house has a small courtyard, a office space across it, and a bridge inside! It is the modern day castle, all it's missing is a moat. I'm very envious.

This is the ground floor overlooking the courtyard.

There is an open plan kitchen and a dining area. I love the concrete floors and the lack of rugs. Rugs are overrated and nasty.

Above you can see the mezzanine. It serves as a living room and library. The house seems so empty but actually there are many well planned storage areas. You could store a lot of stuff in those cabinets beneath the library. I'm assuming the window seat, seen below, is for decorative purposes only; I wouldn't share my seat with cacti.

Ev her ne kadar bomboş dursa da aslında zekice planlanmış depolama alanlarıyla dolu, mesela kütüphanenin altındaki dolaplar epey eşya alıyordur. Pencerenin önündeki minderler sanırım yalnızca dekoratif; ayaklarımı kaktüslere uzatmak istemezdim şahsen.

The highest floor, which also a seems like mezzanine. There is a bridge connecting the "bedroom" and the bathroom & terrace. I really love the white grill railings and that they aren't overpowering.

En üst kat da adeta bir asma katı andırıyor. Yatak odası ile banyo ve terasın bulunduğu bölümü birbirine bağlayan bir köprü var. Beyaz ızgara korkulukları ve evin içinde fazla baskın durmamalarını çok sevdiğimi belirtmeliyim.

The bed has wheels but obviously it's not going anywhere. Again lots of storage around the window but the beautiful soft daylight has enough space to come through.

Yatakta tekerlekler var ama hiçbir yere gidemeyeceği aşikar. Yine pencerenin etrafında bol bol depolama alanı oluşturulmuş ama pencereden yumuşak gün ışığının girişini engellemiyor bu dolaplar.

This is my favorite part about this house; the office. You can say it's a home office, but it's not inside the house, it is across the courtyard. This arrangement would cancel out all the distractions of working from home!

Lys Vintage + Janne Peters

Look at this home, it's mostly gray but far from being dark and dreary. It's a well thought out space, with enough details to make it homey but not cluttered. Peaceful and spacious but not cold.

Above, half way up gray paint. I have been seeing that a lot lately and each time think it looks great.

Üstte, yarı yüksekliğe kadar griye boyanmış duvar. Bu uygulama son zamanlarda çok sık karşıma çıkar oldu her seferinde de harika göründüğünü düşünüyorum.

Wishbones and sheepskins appeal to my primal senses, I will never grow tired of this look.

I prefer my books arranged by genre/publisher/author in that order and usually find color-coding books a bit superficial, but in this home it's good to see these blocks of colors.

With a quick search I have identified the beautiful bird prints on the wall. They are by illustrator Charley Harper and were commissioned by Ford Times in the 1950s.

Quite possibly the most beautiful kitchen I have seen in a long time.

A very simple and smart alteration that made a huge difference. It didn't lose it's character or end up kitsch, it's just brilliantly updated. I'm in love with this bed.

Zoo; toys by Ionna Vautrin for Kvadrat. I'm against stuffed animals in grown-up homes but for this I can make an exception.

Matchy Matchy

Ever thought of matching the color of your furniture to the wall you put them against? Especially when that color is something other than white? I particularly like the workspace above. The desk is painted the same peachy pink shade as the wall but the divinely beautiful rose gold chair adds just enough interest.

Duvarınız ile önüne yerleştirdiğiniz mobilyalarınızı aynı renge boyamak aklınıza gelmiş miydi? Özellikle sözkonusu renk beyaz harici bir şeyse? Üstteki çalışma köşesini özellikle sevdim. Çalışma masası duvar ile aynı şeftali pembesi tonunda, ama göz alıcı güzellikteki pembe altın sandalye yeterince ilgi uyandırıyor.

Here we see not only a beautiful dark shade for the walls, but a great example of mix and match dining chairs as well. You know I'm a big advocate for both. Also, that blue vase with parrots designed by Jaime Hayon for Lladro needs a monochrome environment. I can come outright and say it's kitsch, because he admits it.

Have you ever idolized someone's fashion sense and were utterly disappointed upon catching a view of their habitat? That happens to me too often; I find many people who have an amazing style live in overly cluttered, neglected homes, perhaps because they blow all their budget on clothes. I'm not stereotyping, this is merely an observation.

Anyway, I was glad when Rumi Neely of Fashiontoast shared snippets of her home. I have been a fan of her blog since her very early days when she used to only receive a max. of 10 comments per post (now she receives hundreds), and she had a very creative style despite  her wardrobe mostly consisting of pieces from Forever 21 and eBay. I could even say that she was such a huge inspiration that she played a part in me developing my own fashion sense. Now her wardrobe is much more glamorous, but still just as much "her own". Apparently her great taste extends to interior decorating as well. I really hope that she shares more photos of her home in the future, because I just love what I am seeing so far.

Bu benim başıma çok geliyor, muhteşem giyinen çoğu insanın evlerini aşırı döküntülü ve ihmal edilmiş buluyorum, belki de bütçelerini gardroba yatırmayı seçtiklerinden dolayıdır bu. Genelleme yapmak istemem tabii, benimki yalnızca bir gözlem.

Fashiontoast blog'unun yaratıcısı Rumi Neely'nin evinden kareler paylaştığını gördüğümde çok sevindim. Onun blogunu taaa yazı başına en fazla 10 yorum aldığı ilk zamanlarından beri okuyorum (şimdi yüzlerce yorum alıyor). O zamanlar gardrobunun çoğunu Forever 21 ve eBay'den parçalar oluşturuyordu, fakat yaratıcılığı aşikardı. Hatta onun blogundan aldığım ilhamın kendi stilimin gelişmesinde rolü olduğunu dahi söyleyebilirim. Şu an gardrobu çok daha kıymetli ve göz alıcı parçalardan oluşuyor olsa da hala giydiklerini "kendine ait" hale getirmekte çok başarılı. Anlaşılan modadaki zevki dekorasyona da uzanıyormuş. Umarım gelecekte evine ait daha fazla detay paylaşır çünkü görebildiğim kadarı oldukça hoşuma gitti.

Monochrome

Spring has sprung and mint green is all the rage at the moment. A group of prints focused on this particular color looks very nice, no?

Adı bu sezon nedense "mint yeşili"ne dönüşen bildiğimiz su yeşili şu an pek revaçta. Bu renge odaklanmış bir grup baskı/resim eve ıvır-zıvır doldurmaksızın o ferah bahar havasını getirmek için hoş bir yol olabilir.

Or if you think that black can be the only new black, stick to what you like best and don't let any other color intrude. Either way I really like the idea of picking a monochrome theme for your print groupings.

On a side note, I installed a chair rail on the wall in my hallway, just so I could align framed prints over it. I'm yet to pick out the prints but I couldn't be happier with the chair rail. It's very easy to install with just very strong double sided tape, you only have to caulk the gap afterwards. A shallow shelf would be lovely too, just as you can see in the second photo, then you wouldn't even have to drill extra holes for frames.

Tadilat esnasında koridora beyaz süpürgelik, orta yüksekliğe de sandalyelik denen ahşap bir hat monte ettik. Süpürgeliği işin uzmanına bıraktım ama sandalyeliği çok yapışkan çift taraflı bant ile, hep birlikte taktık. Bantın kalınlığından dolayı oluşan boşluğu ise macunla tıkamak çok basit. Üst tarafına asacağım resimleri de seçebilirsem harika olacak. Bauhaus'larda hazır satılıyor bu parçalar. Alternatif olarak duvarın orta yüksekliğine sığ bir raf takabilir, böylece resimleri üzerine dayayabilir ve çerçeve asmak için duvarı delmekten de kurtulmuş olursunuz.

Silje Aune Eriksen

Some of you may have already seen these photos of the home of Silje Aune Eriksen - photographed by Trine Thorsen, styled by Kirsten Visdal for Norwegian Elle Decor - but I just had to have them in my blog archive for future access. If you read this blog regularly you already know that I'm a huge fan of black and white, anything wood, Scandinavian style, Tom Dixon, and the color pink. This home has it all. I love it when a structurally beautiful interior is decorated in a way that is true to its character.

Silje Aune Eriksen'in evinin fotoğraflarını belki daha önce gördünüz, ancak sonradan blog arşivimden kolayca erişebilmek için hepsini bir araya toplamam şarttı. Bu blog'u düzenli okuyorsanız siyah-beyazı, ahşabı, İskandinav tarzını, Tom Dixon'ı ve pembe rengini ne çok sevdiğimi bilirsiniz. Bu evde hepsi bir arada.
