Holding On Tight

Sıkı Sıkı Tutunmak
{}
Did you know that "clingstone" is a term for fruit? Logically I thought it meant "clinging to stone". The house I am featuring today has its talons clinging tightly on this rock for 103 years.
{}

"Clingstone" is located in Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay. The owner, Henry Wood, is a 79 year old architect who bought this house in 1961 for only $3600! The house had been empty for 2 decades when he bought it, so a lot of restoration had to be done. He loved this house so much that he documented every detail about the progress, and also found old pictures from the insurance company which had insured the house back in the day it was first built.

"Clingstone" adlı bu ev, Amerika'nın Kuzeydoğu sahilindeki Rhode Island eyaletinin Narragansett körfezinde bulunuyor. Sahibi olan 79 yaşındaki mimar Henry Wood, bu evi 1961 yılında yalnızca 3600 dolar karşılığında satın almış. Ev 20 yıldır boş durmaktaymış ve yenilenmesi gerekiyormuş. Henry Wood bu projeyi adeta bebeği gibi görüp her anını dökümanlamış, hatta evin ilk yapıldığı yıllarda onu sigortalayan şirketin arşivinden eve ait eski fotoğraflar bile bulmuş.

They didn't need to get on the dock, they could have swung their fishing lines from the breakfast table upstairs.

İskeleye inmelerine gerek yoktu, evden hiç çıkmadan kahvaltı masasından da sallandırabilirlerdi oltalarını.

The 3 story house has a large central hall, and 23 rooms placed radially around that hall.
{}
{}

{}
The house was originally built by the owner's distant cousin, who had worked with an artist, William Trost Richards, to create picturesque windows. Just like the moving paintings in Harry Potter, this magnificent mansion has live artwork on the walls, thanks to the perfectly framed 360 degrees of ocean view.
{}

Beautiful, inviting kitchen is made to serve the many guests this house can accommodate:

"The house is maintained by an ingenious method: the Clingstone work weekend. Held every year around Memorial Day, it brings 70 or so friends and Clingstone lovers together to tackle jobs like washing all 65 of the windows. "

I would happily wash some windows in return of staying there for a couple of days.
{}
{}
Burada birkaç gün geçirmek uğruna ben de birkaç işin ucundan tutmaya hazırım doğrusu...
{}
{}
I guess they have to wash off a lot of face prints from the windows, because I know I would lean my cheek against this window and not move for a few days... This is one of the 10 bedrooms(all with equally gorgeous view) in the house.
{}
Herhalde camdan birsürü surat izi silmeleri gerekiyordur, zira ben olsam yanağımı şu cama dayayıp birkaç gün yerimden kıpırdamadan dururdum... Bu oda, evdeki muhteşem manzaralı 10 yatak odasından biri.
{}

"The Newport Bridge is visible from the windows of the Ping-Pong room, to the left of the fireplace." Yes, there is a Ping-Pong room. This house is placed/built to live the life!

{}

And finally, a historic photo of the house... Lets hope a 100 years later from now somebody still takes good care of this unique home.

I was laughing at your comment on Hidden In France, what a great comeback! I would have never thought of that, so simple, but would have sent the snooty little goddess reeling. I need to find a class in witty comebacks. Although, I do think of good ones, but, usually the next day after I am done nursing my hurt feelings!
Love your blog, I will add it to my bookmarks.

Wow, the outside of the house is amazing...! <3
The interior is not really my cup of tea..a little too dark and 'woody'.

Thanks a lot for your lovely and kind comments on my blog! It means a lot to me.

In this competitive world, where offices dealing in the same sector are battling to get the best out of their employees, the importance of an attractive and alluring office look and feel can’t be underemphasized. There is no denying the fact that consciously or subconsciously the ambience, the locality and the arredamento mobile ufficio of an office plays a vital role in attracting prospective employees http://www.momi.com

Actually, a "clingstone" gets its name from the literal meaning: clinging to a stone. The "stone" is the pit of the fruit, which the flesh of the fruit clings to. So you were actually correct in your logical thinking.
