Saarinen Masa ve Öbür Küçük Sandalyelerin Öyküsü

Farklı farklı sandalyeleri karıştırmakla ilgili yazımın sonunda, Eero Saarinen'in ünlü "Tulip(Lale)" masası ile ilgili de bir yazı hazırlayacağımı söylemiştim. Sözümü tutuyorum. Bu defa, bu ikonik masa ile birlikte kullanılabilecek sandalyeler bulmaya çalıştım. Aslında bu masa herşeyle o kadar güzel uyuyor ki bence onun biryerde çirkin durması ancak çaba sarfedilirse gerçekleşebilir. Yine de bazı dekorlarda gerçekten çarpıcı olabiliyor, bulduğum örnekleri umarım siz de benim kadar beğenirsiniz.

At the end of my mix & match chairs post I said I was going to do a post on the famous "Tulip" table by Eero Saarinen. I'm keeping my promise. This time I tried to find chairs that would go well with this iconic table. Actually this table is so versatile that it looks good with almost anything. Still, I managed to come by some decors that make this table really shine. I hope you like them as much as I did.

Ok so now we know this table looks awesome with bold walls and nice lighting. The use of the chunky brown stools are very refreshing, we are so used to seeing this table with sophisticated chairs. Did I mention I LOVE that gold wallpaper?

With the Starck "Ghost" chairs and fresh flowers. I adore the chair cushions (note to self: gold, turquoise and pink go perfect together). Here we see the romantic side of the Saarinen table, which I like more than the edgy modern side of it. Didn't I tell you this table is the ultimate versatile piece of furniture?

Tasarımcı Liza Giles'ın evinden bir köşe. Liza Giles Designer's Guild için çalışıyor, harika ev tekstilleri ve duvar kağıtları yapıyorlar. Sanırım Türkiye'de de satılıyor bu marka. Herneyse, evinin tamamını Decor8 blog'unda görürseniz bu masanın bu güzelim evde nasıl da kusursuz durduğunu ve ev sahibinin harika seçimler yaptığını anlarsınız. Bizim çıkaracağımız ders: masayı burada olduğu gibi kendisiyle takım olan "Tulip" sandalyelerle kullandığımızda feminen aksesuarlarla tekdüzelikten kurtulacağız.

The dining corner from designer Liza Giles' home. This beautiful house was featured on Decor8, and looking at the house as a whole, I understand that Liza Giles has such a great eye, and that this table is just a perfect choice for her home. The lesson we need to learn from this is: if we want to use this table with it's matching "Tulip" set of chairs, we should accessorize it with feminine objects in order to avoid monotonousness. Just because a table is a major design object doesn't mean we shouldn't blend it in with the rest of our decor.

Here is our second lesson: when the Saarinen table unites forces with wooden chairs, it kicks some major decor ass. It's beyond a dining area now, it's something to be loved, admired, be mesmerized by it's glossiness... Here we see it teamed with the very expensive Cherner armchairs. The flowers, chandelier, the walls...I need new adjectives to express my feelings of love..

I don't know where these chairs are from but I found something similar at the Anthropologie website. Scroll down for info on that, because I found a huge selection of chairs and listed them. Anyways, you could also paint an existing bentwood chair like this.

Provencal chairs, "Tulip" armchair and marble table. The gold hues in the marble is tying the table to the chairs. And there's the big chandelier again. This decor is a great example of mixing very different style/era furniture together. It looks much more sophisticated and unexpected than using the matching set.

Thonet'in No 9 sandalyeleri ile mutfakta. Bu masa Thonet'lerin her türlüsüyle çok yakışıyor ancak ben olsam Thonet No 14'lerle birleştirirdim onu. Birkaç yıl önce bir dergide böyle kullanıldığı bir evin resimlerini görmüştüm, hala hatırladığıma göre ne kadar harika durduğunu tahmin edebilirsiniz. Bir scanner alır almaz o evi bulup size göstereceğim.

In the kitchen with Thonet No 9 chairs. This table looks great with any Thonet, but if I were to buy one I'd pair it with No 14s. A few years ago I saw an apartment in a magazine, and that's how they had used the Tulip table. You can tell how beautiful it was by the fact that I'm still remembering it. I will post that house as soon as I get a scanner.

After seeing all these examples you probably have an idea what kind of style you want to use your Saarinen table in. In order to give you more concrete ideas on what chair to get, I prepared two collages. In the first one I used very well known designer chairs, which are all beautiful objects if you can afford them.

1800'lü yıllarda, buharda bükülen ahşapla yapılan ilk sandalyelerin ardındaki beyin Michael Thonet tarafından tasarlanmışlar. Demonte olabilmeleriyle gerçekten öncü tasarımlar. Ben onun varisi Peter Thonet'le tanışma şerefine erdim (Domus Academy'de).
They were designed in the 1800s by Michael Thonet, and they are pioneers in design because of the bentwood technique and their ability to be disassembled. I had the privilage of meeting Michael Thonet's heir, Peter Thonet (at Domus Academy in Milan).

Jasper Morrison tasarımı bu sandalye geleceğin klasikleri arasında, daha şimdiden ikon oldu. Sebebi, "gaz enjeksiyonu" denen özel bir teknolojiyle üretilen ilk sandalye oluşu, içindeki boşluklar sayesinde bu kadar ince olmasına karşın çok sağlam bir sandalye. Bunu nereden mi duydum? Designed by Jasper Morrison, this chair is already an icon. That is because it was the first chair to be produced by "gas injection", which means there is air trapped inside the chair, making it unbelievably durable despite it's delicate figure. How do I know this? Stefano Giovannoni told me first hand :) In a lecture of course.
