Here are some (iphone) photos of my current favorite items.

I am a stationery geek and own an abundance of pens, pencils and especially notebooks. I didn't even fight the urge to get these notebook labels and the pink writing pad with grids and a ruler. The Pentel Graphgear 1000 mechanical pencil is not new, but it is the best mechanical pencil ever made (trust me, I have tried many) and has such a perfect weight and balance. The Stabilo point 88 pens are another addiction and the colors are so beautiful. I bought turquoise and violet refills for my Lamy Safari pen, which is a delight to use.

İşte bu aralar en sevdiğim objelerin (iphone) fotoğrafları. Bir kırtasiye meraklısı olarak ihtiyacımdan hayli fazla kaleme, deftere sahibim. Bu eski tip etiketleri ve cetvelli-kareli pembe yazı tahtasını gördüğümde alma dürtüsüne direnmedim bile. Pentel Graphgear 1000 teknik çizim kalemim yeni değil, ancak bugüne dek yapılmış en iyi (elimden bolca kalem geçti) mekanik kurşun kalem olduğu için paylaşmak istedim. Ağırlığı ve dengesi kusursuz. Stabilo point 88 kalemler güzel renkleri yüzünden ayrı bir bağımlılık. Yazması insana zevk veren Lamy Safari kalemime turkuaz ve mor kartuş aldım, kalemin içindeki siyah mürekkep bitse de kullansam.

The wooden rulers were less that $1 each so I bought four, for no other reason than greed. The red hole puncher was bought despite the fact that I haven't punched a hole in years. The train of wooden letters spell my name. I tracked down a copy of "The Best Bedtime Stories", collected by Jella Lepman and illustrated by Hansjörg Schmitthenner. It's from the 50s and consists of the combination of some of the dearest and creepiest stories ever written. I grew up with the Turkish version (illustrated by Günther Strupp) of the book that was a childhood gift to my mother from my grandma. Roald Dahl's "The Gremlins" is a new copy. Although the story was originally printed in 1943 and out of print, it was reprinted -faithful to the original- in 2006 in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the United States Air Force.

Ahşap cetvelleri ucuz bulunca dört tane birden aldım, ihtiyaçtan değil açgölülükten. Kırmızı delgeç yıllardır delik falan delmediğim halde şirinliğiyle kalbimi çaldı. Ahşap harflerden oluşan trenlerle ismimi yazdım, minicik lokomotifi bile var. Yeni ele geçirdiğim 50'lerden kalma "The Best Bedtime Stories"/En İyi Uyku Saati Hikayeleri Jella Lepman tarafından derlenmiş ve Hansjörg Schmitthenner tarafından resimlenmiş. Bazılarınızın "Allah Rahatlık Versin" ismiyle tanıdığı, yazılmış belki de en sevimli ve en ürkünç çocuk hikayelerinin birleşiminden oluşan efsanevi kitabın İngilizce versiyonu. Bendeki Türkçe basımını annem çocukken ona anneannem hediye etmiş, ben de bu kitapla büyüdüm. Bizdekini Günther Strupp resimlemiş, bence çok daha güzel. Roald Dahl'ın "The Gremlins"/Gremlinler adlı kitabı aslen 1943'te basılmış ve bir süre sonra baskıdan kalkmış. Ta ki 2006'da Amerika Birleşik Devletleri Hava Kuvvetleri'nin 60. yılının şerefine aslına uygun şekilde tekrar basılana dek...

Hey, it's Ramadan holiday and everyone took the opportunity and fled south! I am roaming the streets of this abandoned city. Not really, I'm curled up at home as usual :) But of course I believe home is not something you leave behind, it's something you take with you wherever you go.

Herkese ister sevdikleriyle, ister tatil fırsatını değerlendirip deniz kenarında olsun; şeker gibi bir bayram dilerim. Ben mi? Terkedilmiş şehir İstanbul'un sokaklarında hüküm sürüyorum. Yok yok, her zamanki gibi evimde, yuvamdayım :) Zaten evin geride bırakılabilen birşey değil, insanın her zaman yanında taşıyabildiği bir duygu olduğuna inanıyorum.

My Solution to Stacked Magazines

Dergi Destelerine Benim Çözümüm

I have told you about my "vacuumability" criteria. Believe it or not, I really did take that into consideration when redecorating my apartment. See, as much as I like the look of stacked magazines as seen in the photos above and below, I knew they would collect dust bunnies and it would be impossible to move them and vacuum the space behind them. But fear not dear reader, I have the solution.

Size daha önce "süpürülebilirlik" kriterimden sözetmiştim. İnanır mısınız bilmem ama dairemi yenilerken bu kuralın hiç dışına çıkmadım! Yukardaki ve aşağıdaki fotoğraflarda görülen üstüste dizilmiş dergilerin görüntüsünü beğensem de, bunların kısa zamanda toz toplarına yuva olacağını, bunları kaldırarak arkalarını temizlemenin büyük dert olacağını biliyordum. Fakat korkma sevgili okuyucu, bir çözüm buldum.

I started with sorting out stacks, stacks and stacks of magazines and giving away 90% for recycling. This modest bunch is all I have right now! I also subscribed to the online version my favorite magazines so I never have to go through that again. I bought this wheeled galvanised thing from the garden section of Ikea. It's meant to be used for heavy pots. I put my stack on top; now I can move it easily for cleaning, and it serves as a new coffee table that I can pull where I want. It's definitely not an eyesore because the wheels are tiny and white, not in-your-face black plastic.

Önce dizi dizi, tepe tepe dergileri ayırdım, %90'ını elden çıkardım. Bu mütevazi deste şu an evimdeki dergilerin tamamını oluşturuyor. En sevdiğim dergilerin online versiyonlarına üye oldum ki bir daha bunlarla uğraşmak zorunda kalmayayım. Sonra Ikea'nın bahçe bölümünden bu tekerlekli galvaniz saksı altlığını aldım ver dergilerimi bunun üzerine dizdim. Süpürmek için tek elimle kolayca hareket ettirebiliyorum, üstelik istediğimde yanıma çekebildiğim bir sehpa görevi de görüyor. Bauhaus'ta ahşap versiyonları da var fakat bunun tekerlekleri oradakilerin aksine siyah plastik değil minicik ve beyaz oldukları için ben bunu seçtim.

Yesterday our painter finished painting the doors white. They were a warm beige before, I didn't think they were ugly by any means but after painting the walls white the color just didn't go with the cool off white and appeared to have a yellow tint, which I didn't like. See the before picture at the end of this post. I'm very happy with the result, you can see it in the picture above. The type of paint that needs to be used for these type of doors smells very very bad but it's necessary to use it as it gives color but lets the texture of the doors show. It was well worth the agony, they are very beautiful up close! I got that alphabet print from Ikea for half price. I wouldn't buy art from Ikea but this one I liked a lot. Sorry about the dust on the floors, we still have some construction going on and with the shining sun the dust situation is just out of control. By the way, these are the first ever pictures of my own home published on this blog, yay!

Dün kapıların beyaza boyanması bitti. Önceden sıcak bej tonlarındaydılar. Çirkin bir renk değildi ama duvarlar soğuk beyaza boyandıktan sonra renkler uyuşmadı, kapılar sarı sarı sırıttı. Eski rengini aşağıdaki resimde görebilirsiniz. Bu tip amerikan kapılar bir kat astar üzerine selülozik boya ile boyanabiliyormuş, bu boya sayesinde kapılardaki doku hiç kaybolmuyor. Boya felaket kokuyor ama çekilen çileye değdi, yakından çok güzeller, süt gibi oldular. Sonuçtan gerçekten çok memnunum, üstteki resimde son halini görebilirsiniz. Alfabe baskılı çerçeveyi Ikea'nın fırsat köşesinde yarı fiyata buldum, normalde duvara asmalık resim tarzı şeyleri kitlesel üretim yapan yerlerden almamayı tercih ederim ama bunu çok sevdim. Yerlerdeki toz için kusuruma bakmayın, evde halen inşaat işleri devam ediyor, güneş de böyle vurunca toz durumu kontrolden çıktı. Bu arada bu blogda kendi evime ait resim ilk defa yayınlamış oluyorum, tebrikler bana!
