Monochrome

Spring has sprung and mint green is all the rage at the moment. A group of prints focused on this particular color looks very nice, no?

Adı bu sezon nedense "mint yeşili"ne dönüşen bildiğimiz su yeşili şu an pek revaçta. Bu renge odaklanmış bir grup baskı/resim eve ıvır-zıvır doldurmaksızın o ferah bahar havasını getirmek için hoş bir yol olabilir.

Or if you think that black can be the only new black, stick to what you like best and don't let any other color intrude. Either way I really like the idea of picking a monochrome theme for your print groupings.

On a side note, I installed a chair rail on the wall in my hallway, just so I could align framed prints over it. I'm yet to pick out the prints but I couldn't be happier with the chair rail. It's very easy to install with just very strong double sided tape, you only have to caulk the gap afterwards. A shallow shelf would be lovely too, just as you can see in the second photo, then you wouldn't even have to drill extra holes for frames.

Tadilat esnasında koridora beyaz süpürgelik, orta yüksekliğe de sandalyelik denen ahşap bir hat monte ettik. Süpürgeliği işin uzmanına bıraktım ama sandalyeliği çok yapışkan çift taraflı bant ile, hep birlikte taktık. Bantın kalınlığından dolayı oluşan boşluğu ise macunla tıkamak çok basit. Üst tarafına asacağım resimleri de seçebilirsem harika olacak. Bauhaus'larda hazır satılıyor bu parçalar. Alternatif olarak duvarın orta yüksekliğine sığ bir raf takabilir, böylece resimleri üzerine dayayabilir ve çerçeve asmak için duvarı delmekten de kurtulmuş olursunuz.

Silje Aune Eriksen

Some of you may have already seen these photos of the home of Silje Aune Eriksen - photographed by Trine Thorsen, styled by Kirsten Visdal for Norwegian Elle Decor - but I just had to have them in my blog archive for future access. If you read this blog regularly you already know that I'm a huge fan of black and white, anything wood, Scandinavian style, Tom Dixon, and the color pink. This home has it all. I love it when a structurally beautiful interior is decorated in a way that is true to its character.

This home looks a lot like my apartment in a bit more done state. Had it been ever finished, mine would be a tad more colorful with a healthy amount of tartan and animal illustrations. I'm posting this to remind myself to get framed artwork for my blank walls and to deal with the curtain situation already!

Bu ev tarzıyla benim dairemin daha tamamlanmış bir durumda olsa nasıl görünebileceğini düşündürdü bana. Bir gün biterse şayet benimki yeterli dozda ekose desenler ve hayvan ilüstrasyonları ile biraz daha renkli olurdu. Bu evi kendime duvarları boş bırakmamayı ve perde problemini çözmeyi hatırlatması için yayımlıyorum.

I'm not getting the kitchen redone anytime soon, but boy do I want to paint them! But probably won't, as I'm afraid I'll muck it up and end up with gooey patchy cupboards.

Not getting the bathroom redone either, but this is similar to the color scheme I have to work with. One thing that annoys me about bathrooms in Turkish houses is that they never have windows. Even if you are building a house from scratch, like my parents did, the builders cannot grasp the concept of a bathroom window and make them significantly smaller than what you have in mind.

My favorite part of this house is the simple and cozy bedroom. This would make an excellent guest bedroom. I have a dark wood wardrobe in mine that I have to keep and a selection of warm grays and earth tones would tie it all nicely together.

Bu evin en beğendiğim kısmı yatak odası oldu. Hoş ve sade bir misafir yatak odası olurdu bu. Benimkinde orada tutmak durumunda olduğum koyu renk ahşap bir gardrop var, buradaki gibi sıcak griler ve kahverengiler o odaya sıcak ve tamamlanmış bir hava verecektir.

Gridded wallpaper. I imagine putting up prints and artwork would be a breeze if you manage to keep your sanity when trying to apply this wallpaper.

My bed is Ikea Edland like the one above, topped with a Latex matress. Success, I feel like a princess! But this combination makes a very high bed, and I was seriously considering a bar stool as a nightstand as everything else looks comically dwarfed next to it. I think I will allow myself to buy a few magazines and stack them on a chair (remember I ditched most of my mags). Thank God September issues are coming up, I find summer issues of most magazines to be utter crap.

Yanıma sehpa olarak bir bar taburesi edinmeyi düşünüyordum çünkü diğer herşey yatağın yanında kısacık kalıyor. Galiba Eylül sayılarının çıkmasını fırsat bilerek birkaç dergi alacağım ve bir sandalyenin üzerine böyle koyacağım. Biliyorsunuz evimde şu an pek dergi yok, yaz aylarında da çoğu dergi aşırı uyduruk oluyor.

How lovely does the vintage tile nook look with the grid walls and matte black cupboards? Also I wonder if that countertop is concrete, and if so is it practical?

On a side note, I bought Whitelines notebooks from 100% Design London last year. They are a revolution in grid notebooks, cannot recommend enough. I wish I had a lifetime supply! Read why they are special.

İlgisiz sayılacak bir not; geçen yıl 100% Design London fuarından Whitelines defterleri almıştım. Bunlar beyaz sayfa üzerine koyu renk çizgiler yerine açık gri sayfa üzerine beyaz çizgilere sahip, asla göz yormuyor ve çok daha okunaklı. Kareli defterde tam bir devrim, şiddetle tavsiye ederim! Keşke bir ömür yetecek miktarda olsaydı bir kenarda.

Hey there! I'm still knee deep in renovations, and my poor mother is staying with me helping me, or rather managing the whole ordeal. The whole apartment has been painted except the balconies and radiators, the color turned out horrible and two big rooms had to be repainted, the water-damaged and deeply scratched wooden floors have been fixed, sanded, stained and refinished, baseboards have been changed, and we have been exposed to highly toxic smells during all these processes. I posted photo on Twitter in case you want to see. I got not one, but two black rooms, and am in love with both of them. If this black loving thing is just a phase I'll be very sorry once it passes!

Merhaba! Hala tadilatla boğuşur durumdayım, yardıma gelip tüm işleri çekip çeviren zavallı anneciğimle salonda kamp yapıyoruz. I'm about to make some major decisions right now, let's hope I won't regret them next year.

Anna Sui's kitchen is wonderfully goth. The backdrop of the sink, the ceiling lamp, the cabinets (note that the upper and lower cabinets don't match) and how they're modernized with the subway tiles is spectacular. You can see the rest of her house here; the other rooms are slightly (or overly) goth as well, a bit too much for my taste, but she does patterned wallpaper very well.
